Justice Pankaj Mithal, judge of Allahabad High Court has been appointed as Chief Justice of the common high court for the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
Justice Pankaj Mithal practiced before the Allahabad High Court. He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad high court in 2006. He became permanent Judge in 2008.
On December 14, 2020, the supreme court collegium recommended his elevation as Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir.
The central government vide notification dated 31.12.2020 appointed Justice Pankaj Mithal as Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh
